Description
1966/D Austin Healey Sprite MkIII in Old English White. 1098cc and being the later 10CC engine has the better/ stronger 2 inch main bearings. It was rated at 59BHP only just under the 65 BHP of the later 1275 so the difference is negligible.
Back in April 1966 Miss Merle Hill bought this Sprite brand new and kept the car for 60 years before her sad death earlier this year. During that time she has loved and cherished the car having a body restoration back in 1998. She married not long after and her husband had a new Morgan which was his car of choice if travelling together so the Sprite was used sparingly by Merle and she also bought several new Morgans over the years along with modern daily use cars.
The speedo is currently showing 36,000 miles. A close family friend who inherited this car says it’s more than likely to be correct as she had other cars to use every day so I can’t guarantee this as fact but it’s believable.

During the 1960’s the hood frame was converted to fold behind the seats and tonneau altered to accommodate the folded hood. The hood was also altered to include a clear panel in the roof to let more light in, it’s been sparingly used and looks to be original.
The interior panels and seats are original and still in very good condition, new carpets have been fitted.
Sadly Merle passed this year hence it’s now offered for sale for the first time.
As Merle had become elderly and wasn’t driving the Sprite much it’s just had a major recommission including full service, replacing all the brakes including master and slave cylinders, new hoses, four new Continental tyres. A new tonneau cover.
