fully restored and stunning Downton car.

Description

Downton Engineering supplied and modified to their touring car spec from new. Original bill of sale from Downton detailed all the extras fitted.

Downton Engineering was ‘the’ tuning company of the 1960s and early 1970s. Even the Abingdon works rally and race cars used Downton for their cylinder heads and other performance modifications. A similar modified 998cc Mini Cooper was sold last year by Classics auctions for £36,000. So this 1275cc Midget is a relative bargain.

A full restoration was finished in 2014 using a British Motor Heritage body shell. Less than 500 miles since! The 1275cc engine was stripped, inspected and rebuilt as necessary including a new Piper BP285 cam.

All new brakes, suspension, electrics, chrome, etc.

Original genuine Minilite wheels with 165/80/13 tyres. These are showing their age so I can fit another set.

straight cut gearbox. Weber 45DCOE. Performance Three branch exhaust manifold going into a big bore exhaust. Oil cooler.

Uprated front shock absorbers and telescopic rears. Uprated anti-roll bar.

Recent Aldon Automotive rolling road tune, this engine is producing 88 BHP compared to the standard 65 BHP.

Cream leather seats with Green piping. Cream trim and Black carpets.

Just three previous owners from new and a reputed genuine 46,000 miles.

An extremely rare Downton modified Midget in superb condition, sounds amazing and a delight to drive.
